By Vivian Gordon There really is a foolproof recipe for true inner peace. It really is simple if you are one who is determined to use it the way it is directed. It doesn't cost money, you don't have to have an insurance plan in order to get it. On the contrary, if you persue this foolproof plan for peace, you will attain the ulitimate insurance plan for life. God who is the Creator of everything, has this plan laid out for all who are willing to receive it. He guarantees it's success in bringing peace into your life. But, there are some requirements that are expected of you in order to activate it. God is not a God that makes our lives more complicated. We are the only ones who are to blame for that. God has lined out a very simple peace plan, in fact it's so simple, you could say it's as simple as your A,B,C's! Face it, if you don't have peace within your soul, you are living a life of torment. The odds of that happening are practically 10 to 1. I would say that if you have no trials in your life, you aren't living. You would be an exception if your life was just cruising at a constant pace. But, God knows this is not the norm for His children and so for all those who want His perfect peace, He laid down this perfect recipe. God loves us with an undying love, and He wants us to have His peace in order to serve Him better while we are still aliens in this world. So, here it is, very simple, very basic and is guaranteed to work for all who use it the way He intended. A is for ABIDE Abide means to live, dwell in something. It's home and home is where the heart is. Jesus said, "IF...you keep My commandments (if you continue to obey My instructions), you WILL abide in My love and live on it, just as I have obeyed My Father's commandments and live on His love." (Jn.15:10). Jesus represents love and peace, and He instructs us to abide in Him in order that we can obtain these things from Him. The apostle John says, "But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction) which you received from Him ABIDES (permanently) in you; (so) then you have no need that anyone should instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything and is true and is no falsehood, so you must ABIDE in (live in, never depart from) Him, (being rooted in Him, knit to Him), just as (His anointing) has taught you to do."(1 Jn.2:27). John even goes on to say that to ABIDE in Him is to live by truth. Living by truth brings peace, there is no more condemnation. John also writes (vs.28) that to ABIDE in Him is to have and enjoy perfect confidence (boldness, assurance) and we will not shrink and be ashamed from Him at His coming. Again he tells us in (1 Jn. 3:6) that anyone who ABIDES in Him can NOT deliberately, knowingly, or habitually commit sin. Sin is what keeps us from knowing the perfect peace that God has for us in the first place. So when you ABIDE in Christ, you will be at peace from sin! This is to have the nature of God, which is perfect peace. Simple so far? B is for BELIEVE Once we can abide, we will also have the belief in Christ. This to credit or to expect with confidence. After all, BELIEVING is the main theme behind God's Word. Many miracles were performed for those who believed. Jesus Himself said, "All things are possible to him who BELIEVES." (Mk. 9:23) Jesus said "ALL" things, not just a few things would be possible. ALL encompasses just that...EVERYTHING that there is. What does it leave out? Nothing! Again God made this promise, "that to as many as received and welcomed Him, He gave aurthority (power, privilege, right) to become children of God, that is, to those who BELIEVE in (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on) His name." (Jn. 1:12). I don't know about you, but this brings a great peace to my soul just knowing that I am a child of God's, the God of Peace! If this hasn't gotten your attention yet, then how about this. By believing in His name, you will never perish, but will have everlasting life! God says we will live forever with Him in His kingdom, (Jn. 3:15). This is truly a main ingredient for peace, to know that we will never die, that our lives will live on in another realm with God Almighty. The Bible is full of these promises from God to those who are willing to BELIEVE in His Son for attaining eternal peace and everlasging life. C is for CHRIST This is the last ingredient. Actually the first and the last. He is the Alpha and Omega. He is the Rock, the Savior, The Comforter and Friend. These names alone should bring you great peace. Christ alone is the reason we can ABIDE and BELIEVE in the first place. He is the reason for our salvation, which spells out peace to perfection. Christ in His own words tells us that even the person who offers us a cup to drink because we bear the name and belong to Him will be rewarded. (Mk. 9:41) Here's the best assurance of all. Paul said "Therefore, (there is) now no condemnation (no judging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live (and) walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit." (Rom. 8:1). Just knowing that Christ will not bring us condemnation of judgement. This should be adding a great peace to you right now. Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God (1 Cor. 1:24) We are Christ's just as Christ is God's (1 Cor.3:23). In fact, the Bible says that we are INgrafted in Christ (which is receiving from Him) and we are now "new creatures" altogether. (2 Cor. 5:17) This is a fresh and new way which has come. The things that hold us back from peace is hanging onto our old things; such as contempt, sin, pride, stubborness of unforgiveness. All the things that won't leave us alone to ABIDE and BELIEVE in CHRIST. But when we can do these things, He washes us clean as snow. You have to admit that there is something magical and pure about a first snowfall. We describe it as pristine, pure and clean. We reflect that pristine innocence and beauty when Christ is done cleaning up our act. To sum this all up is as Paul stated; "May Christ through your faith (actually) dwell (settle down, abide, make His home permanent) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love." (Eph. 3:17) When we ABIDE, BELIEVE in CHRIST, making Him our permanent residency, (remember; home is where the heart is) we will be rooted and sercurely grounded in His Peace! Perfect love, truth, peace is having freedom from sin and death. It's having God's power and wisdom which spells relief for PEACE. Now we know our A,B,C's!!! Christ invites all to come to Him for eternal life and peace in this life. If you don't know Him today, ask Him to come into your heart and confess your sins to Him. He loves you so much that He died for them. When you exchange those sins for His peace, you will know that He is worthy to be praised. He will be your everlasting JOY, PEACE, COMFORT, TRUTH, and LOVE in a world where sin is running rampant. He is all you need. Just ask, listen and receive, it's there for the taking! For example Jesus spoke of wars and rumors of wars. It is no secret that most of the wars fought throughout history have been fought in the last seventy five years. Or that most of the earthquakes ever recorded have taken place in the last twenty five years. But it is not these general signs that give us the greatest insight into the timing of the second coming. It is the four pillars of prophecy that place us smack in the middle of the last generation before Christs return. The four pillars are as follows. The re-birth of the nation of Israel. The Jewish people will possess the same general area as ancient Israel and be in full possession of the city of Jerusalem. Hosea 2:14:23, Ezekiel 16:58-63, Ezekiel 37:27-27 The birth of a nation in the same general geographic area as the old Roman Empire. Daniel 2:lf. Daniel 7:lf. Rev. 17:lf The building of a new temple in Jerusalem where oblations and burnt sacrifices will be offered daily by the Jewish priesthood. Ezekiel 40: 1f The rise out of the European continent of the worlds last, and worst dictator. He will present himself to the world as its very savior in the new Jewish temple, which causes the final judgments to fall on the earth, Gods wrath, Armageddon and the physical and literal return of Jesus Christ to the earth. 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4. 1John 2:18-27.2, John 1:7, Daniel 7:8- 20, Daniel 8:23-25, Mt. 24:24, Rev.16:lf, Rev.13:11-18 No way is ever given for any believer to name the exact date on which the Lord will return. Likewise there is no means of telling when all of the events surrounding the second coming will happen. At this point we can safely say that we are between two major prophecies that are fulfilled and two that apparently will soon he fulfilled. Dozens of connecting events are in the entire scenario but these four pillars are major and definitive events. These prophecies could never be said to have been fulfilled in any other period of time. One generation of time will bring everything to an end when theses things begin to happen. Superbly universal in nature, the first sign alone could give us the clue as to when the last generation begins. Israel has not been a free an independent nation since 586 BC. The promise is that Israel will be a nation, and be in possession of Jerusalem before the clock can start ticking. Even though the span of one generation has always been in dispute, it is reasonable to use a median figure of between forty and seventy five years. The city of Jerusalem was re-captured by the Jews in the six day war of nineteen sixty seven, even though they were outnumbered by forty to one and had many Arab nations on the march against them. Can we safely start the last generation from this time? Since the European parliament is only about one year away from their hopes of their new constitution being signed, the answer is an unequivocal, yes. Many books, web pages and teaching ministries are now addressing the matter of the second coming of Christ. The total affect, however, seems to be that the whole subject has gotten bogged down in endless conjecture and minuscule dissecting of every jot and title. I am under the greatest sense of duty and compunction to both refrain from entering the fray, and of warning those who are helping to create the fray. I cant dictate the perfect method to approach the entire subject. What I will do is suggest that we look at the response made by someone in the Bible who was given a great and deeply disturbing direct revelation from God. Mary the mother of Jesus was approached by the angel Gabriel, and told she would bear a son that would he a product of the Holy Spirit overshadowing her. That alone could have sent her into an emotional tailspin, but she remained submissive and stayed on course until her child was born. Just after he was born she was met by others, namely Shepards and travelers, who had also been visited by angels, and told her of the great things these angel messengers said would come of her child. Luke 2:8-19. Remaining steady as a rock, she took in the reports that seemed to put her child in a place that would affect every man, women and child on the planet, one way or the other. Her response was so remarkable that it begs to be examined. Her response should be the hallmark of all those who will ever receive any direct or indirect revelation from God, but especially the millions of second coming enthusiasts that are now emerging in this present day. Her response is spoken of in one simple and succinct verse that is impossible to disregard. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. Luke 2:19 Mary has shown us an entirely different way to deal with revelation, a way that is not found anywhere else in scripture. With second coming doctrine it would also serve us well to engage a great deal less pontificating and a whole lot more pondering. Anyone can say they have forgiven, but what is your heart telling you? Do you think it is the end of your marriage because your spouse had an affair? On the contrary its time to nurture, cultivate, and cherish the marriage even more. It is time to start plucking out the mischievous weeds to make room for the tender new shoots. The purpose for forgiving those who have hurt us is to clear out unwanted emotions, and free our minds from negative clutter. This needless stuff builds up if we dont do anything about it. First and foremost we need to be mentally and spiritually healthy so we can express feelings and needs appropriately to our spouse. Then and only then can we actually forgive in completeness? One of the most difficult aspects of forgiving is the ability to stop picturing the hurt in our mind. We may actually try and envision what it was like for our spouse while they were engaged in the sexual act with another person. We want to know if they enjoyed it or not. We want to know why they did it. We may even believe there is something wrong with us sexually. All of these things enter our mind even after we have forgiven, and they can literally tear us apart. My motto has always been that we absolutely need to take care of our self first before we can take care of another. If we are all messed up inside, full of bitterness and resentment towards our unfaithful spouse, we certainly cannot forgive them. The same applies with love. Dont we need to love ourselves first before we can love another? So this brings me to detachment. We become healthy in mind by detaching with love. Whats that? As Jesus would say, Turn the other cheek. We need to let it go! Letting emotional qualms trouble us will not help the forgiveness process. When we let the anger and bitterness go from within our inner being, we can start applying constructive ways to build back up the wounded marriage. Detaching only means we are not going to allow the weakness of our spouse to CONTROL our mental and spiritual well-being. If we are still angry and bitter over their unfaithfulness, we invariably make their sin a part of who we are by obsessing over it every chance we get. Detaching gives us the freedom to forgive! If we refuse to forgive our spouse we are missing the wonderful opportunity to experience the joys in forgiving and sharing that happiness with our spouse. The marriage will miss out on the growth process that takes place within its framework, and the couples own spiritual outlook on life. Marriage can remain stunted by not forgiving or it can grow out from the selfish aspect of each couple by forgiving completely. No doubt, it is difficult to forgive when our spouse has had sex with someone else. But that's just it; we are flabbergasted that our spouse would err against the marriage in such a way. We feel duped, unloved, and deceived! We want restitution at all costs! For some of us that means divorce. This initial feeling, of course, is completely understandable. We have been hurt deeply by the unfaithfulness of our spouse and justify our own bad behavior by literally making ourselves the victim of our spouses err. But who really is the victim here? In reality, we make our self the victim of our spouses weakness by obsessing over it and not forgiving. We do that to our self. No one does that for us. Divorce over unfaithfulness is totally unnecessary. Couples can work through this infidelity issue properly and grow from it to boot. Did our spouse have an affair to do wrong purposely against the marriage? I dont think so. Most of the time when a spouse is unfaithful it has nothing to do with the other spouse. The reasons behind unfaithfulness stem from the need for constant self-gratification, low self esteem, and lack of spiritual wisdom and knowledge. Heres how it works. First the idea to be unfaithful is imagined in the mind. Secondly it is mediated on with vivid scenes and great clarity. Thirdly, adultery somehow becomes justified because of wrong thinking, and cultural influences. Finally the act of adultery is actually carried out in the physical sense. Sometimes the guilty party feels remorse about defiling the marriage bed, and wont do it again. No one finds out, case closed. But sometimes-promiscuous acts continue, and that is because the adulterer has not humbled himself to God for the guidance he so very much needs to help him to turn away from tempting and enticing situations. Unfaithfulness in marriage is only a symptom of a greater problem. But so often when marriages break apart couples blame infidelity as the culprit, but it is not the real problem. The real issue is most likely boredom, lack of respect and commitment for one another. But those are the main features God had designed especially for marriage! And since the culture of society has made it justifiable to sleep around from bed to bed, house to house, couples have decided to make themselves a part of that promiscuous world instead of Gods world. So in essence the real problem stems from lack of spiritual wisdom guiding couples in their faithless marriage! Unfortunately, so many marriages of today deal with the issues of adultery. Culturally speaking, isnt it a thing of normalcy for a spouse to be unfaithful in their marriage? No one gives a darn! But this kind of thinking is destroying lives. It is not normal to have sexual relations outside of marriage! It is very wrong and goes against all that God has created and planned for marriage! Adultery breaks the bonds of trust and respect for the person we married, and carries with it a heavy sword of sinful rebellion against what God has created. You see, if we have not yet acknowledged the realm of God's world and are lacking in the knowledge of God's goodness, we, through our own understanding, allow our wayward thinking patterns to take charge. But what do we know? We know our negative feelings! That's what we know. Our feelings tell us to be bitter because our spouse had sex with someone else. So what do we do? We become bitter! Our feelings tell us to stay resentful, and so we resent our spouse. Our feelings tell us the grass is greener over there on the other side of the fence. So we go to the other side. How can we forgive properly when our negative feelings our controlling us! These unhealthy emotions make our attitude, and ultimately tell us how to view the world around us and how to live in the world. In contrast, a healthy spiritually minded person allows self to be directed by Gods insight where it looks beyond selfishness and into the loving person they were meant to be. We absolutely need to have the knowledge and wisdom of God within the framework of who we are, so we can understand how to respect and love our spouse properly. Why on earth would anyone want to continue carrying the mistakes of sinful weakness throughout the marriage? Matthew 7:24-27 Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on a rock. The rain came down, the streams rose and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. We just do not have the complete understanding to actually forgive without ever bringing up the offense again to our spouse, and even to our self! What happens is we only forgive superficially, which keeps us feeling the burden of the hurt. But we dont want this because here is what happens. If we only forgive superficially the offense will continually evade our heart and mind, consequently, bitter feelings take over and control what we do and how we behave. Do you want to lash out in anger at your spouse? Then forgive superficially. Do you want to say hateful and mean things to the person you married? Forgive superficially. Do you want to respect and trust your spouse again? Then forgive completely. Here is how you forgive. First, understand this: The Holy Spirit is our greatest blessing and gift from God that we, as His children receive when we share ourselves with Him. When we give up the selfish ego to God, He will in return gives us the gifts of how to love properly, how to hope, how to have faith with conviction, and how to forgive completely. When we act on His instructions we are allowing the power of the Holy Spirit to take over in our marriage and life and we are submitting to His will for us. God is in control. Remember, we do not have the ability under our own understanding to forgive properly, to love completely, or to understand and utilize the blessed gifts of the Holy Spirit. We know that all these awesome gifts come from God. But that is all we know. Not until we put all of this into practice will it actually be real to us. We will not understand what it is that God wants for us, until we submit our sinful and selfish lives to Him. We want it all. But to have it, we must experience it first. By Trevor Kugler The term ultra light fishing may conjure up pictures of a fishing rod and reel that would compare with the snoopy setup that you have for your kids. I'm here to dispute that argument once and for all. Ultra Light fishing simply means using fishing gear that's smaller than you may be accustomed to. Actually, it's using equipment that's actually matched to what you're fishing for. Lets take fishing line as an example. When is the last time a fish actually broke your line? That is, you reeled in your line after having a fish on and the line was broken from the fight of the fish. Obviously I'm not referring to the line braking from abrasion. I'm referring to the line breaking from the weight of the fish. I've been fishing twenty years, and ultralight fishing for eighteen of those years. I can count on one hand the number of times a fish has broken my line, without the help of abrasive surfaces. Yet many people use fishing line that's double the weight of the fish they are attempting to catch. Do you realize that four pound test fishing line will withstand four pounds of weight without breaking? Yet very few people use fishing line as light as four pound test. They consider four pound test to be ultralight. For the most part, your fishing line should match the size of your fishing rod and reel. My point is that if you use a medium action rod and reel, spooled with six pound test monofilament, and you're fishing for nice walleye and smallmouth bass, this setup could be considered ultra light. And this is not at all a bad thing. In fact, it's a good thing. Using a rod, reel, and line that match each other will result is you getting more bites and catching more fish. Not only will it result in you catching more fish, but it adds to the sporty as well. Catching a four pound smallmouth on the setup mentioned above is much more fun than catching the same smallmouth on a rod a reel setup that's heavier (and most anglers use) isn't nearly as much fun. I speak from experience on that one. I'll give you a real life example of how line diameter specifically relates to our subject. I was out fishing a couple of years ago with gang hooks tied on six pound test monofilament. I used heavier line because I thought I had a big fish located. In any case I fished for three hours without a bite. This was highly unusual for the area I fish in Montana, but I figured that the moon or weather must have had something to do with it. I was about to call it a day, when I got snagged and lost my last pre tied gang hook. As I was walking away, I remembered that I normally use gang hooks tied on four pound test monofilament. I of course had spare line and hooks with me, so I quickly tied a gang hook on four pound test, baited it with a worm (just as I had been all day), and cast out my line. Half way through my drift, FISH ON. I fished for another thirty minutes and caught four more nice trout. The only difference was the size of the line that my gang hooks were tied on, that was it. The bottom line is that ultralight fishing isn't necessarily what you may be thinking. If you've never matched your fishing gear to what you're fishing for, give it a shot. You won't be disappointed.
